PetSafe Busy Buddy Slab o Sirloin

So I have a now 7 month old rescue pup that is growing fast and big and a 6 year old min pin. The very big pup was really annoying her miniature Sister. I was desperate. I got one of these and few other toys to try and the very next day ordered one more of these and the rawhide rings. This toy is great and keeps my dogs busy for hours, I actually have to remove the toy sometimes. Once they figured it out it is a lifesaver. It keeps them busy and distracts them from each other. None of the other toys held their interest for more than 10 min.

Libby loves it! She is a 50 pound Pitbull and an aggressive chewer. When I opened the box and saw it, I was concerned that it was too small and I got the wrong size. It is difficult to judge even with the item description and photos. However it seems to be just right. At least she thinks so, and that is what matters. Bigger is not always better. At first I would give it to her for 15 minutes a day to break it in. I do this because the plastic gets sharp and cuts her gums if she spends to much time with it. After a week or so, we leave it out and she will casually chew a few times throughout the day. That's what I wanted. A toy that she can still get excited about if you play with her, and at the same time be safe enough to leave out to help with boredom. I have also let her have it outside but it is hard to get the dirt off since the plastic is now roughed up. As for the rawhide disk, I don't use them. They give her gas, she gets them off in about 2 minutes(I timed it), and they are not worth the cost. Oh, and the shape is one of the biggest reasons I got this one. Creates somewhat of a challenge.

This is, without a doubt, the one toy that has kept the peace in our house for the last two years with our neurotic, rescued border collei/terrier mix. She's intense with a constant need to chew. This one does the trick, with or without the rawhide rings. Pippa has one of these jacks in every room of the house. It was recommended by our vet and I can't thank her enough for pointing us towards this line of toys. We have several of the other Busy Buddy bones, but the jack is the "paws-down" favorite. I buy one for friends and family when they adopt new furry family members and it seems to get the same rave reviews from everyone. Pippa has some food allergies, but the occasional rawhide doesn't seem to be a problem. I tried the bacon-flavored cornstarch based rings, but she prefers the ones that come with the toy. I purchase refills and save them for times when we need a serious distraction, but the jack alone will provide a great outlet for energy when she gets up in the morning or has been crated for any length of time. The only caution I would offer is to not step on one barefoot. My husband has affectionately dubbed the rough, gnawed on jack "The Death Star!"
